Lumusloo-muhs
n. The poignant humanness beneath society's spectacle. Your culture never leaves you—its rhythms in your heartbeat, its music in your voice. It's hard not to get swept up, absorbing its stories until you stop questioning them.
But sometimes you tune out the fanfare and see normal life with fresh eyes. The halls of politics, rituals of status, waves of breaking news—all built by ordinary humans who shiver when cold, dance when they have to pee, lash out when powerless.
The circus is so loud, it's easy to believe that's the real world. But beneath these constructs is a humble humanness that powers everything. We're all just people. We play our roles, then take off our makeup and go home. None of us really knows what we're doing.
The most amazing thing about society: even if none of us fully believes in it, we all pretend we do, holding up the tent, shutting out the darkness. Tomorrow we'll do it again. The show must go on.
Etymology
Latin lumen, light, brightness + humus, a particularly rich and dark component of soil, made of decayed organic matter.
