Saudadesaw-dah-deh

n. A vague, constant desire for something that does not and probably cannot exist - a nostalgic longing for someone or something loved and then lost. A sentiment much stronger than simply missing something or someone. Saudade has been (and continues to be) the subject of some beautiful, heartbreaking art and literature. It seems to take on nuances from country to country and person to person—Brazil even celebrates a day of saudade every January.
