Tichlochtik-lok
n. The anxiety of never knowing how much time you have left. Time is an odd currency—you're free to spend it as you will, but it's only dispensed heartbeat by heartbeat. You have no way of knowing how much you have left.
Suppose you could check your remaining balance, knowing exactly how many heartbeats remained. Most humans top out around two billion beats. Would it feel humbling to see your life distilled to digits ticking down? In quiet moments, you'd notice a rhythm throbbing in your ears like a clock.
How long before you'd start hoarding time, looking for price tags on every moment? You'd become aware how much life you trade for salary. "That's two hours I'm never getting back," you'd whisper after a bad movie.
Time has no inherent value. It's a fiat currency—you can't cash it in for anything solid. It's up to you to decide what it's worth trading for. It may be a blessing that you never know how much you have left. All you have is this moment. That alone is a blessing.
